WELCOME TO
STRATHEARN WOODWORK

Introduction

We have been friends since Secondary school and have always shared a love of furniture. After leaving school we spent 18 months working and travelling in America.

On our return to the UK we began working in the antiques business, sending containers out to America and Canada as well as restoring antique pine furniture (mainly Georgian and Victorian pine).

Building on our restoration skills, we began restoring wood in period homes. As our business grew, it seemed the natural step to start making furniture as well as restoring it.

We use Scottish hardwood sourced from all over Scotland, from Ullapool to Inzievar. Sustainability and good design are at the heart of what we create, and we work with the most exciting wood we can find. We are now working in the central Highlands of Scotland using locally sourced sustainable timber.

We work on projects ranging from restoration, carving, turning, architectural joinery and jig making to one-off bespoke furniture for clients across Scotland.

Commissioning Process

Commissioning a piece of handmade fine furniture is a very personal, enjoyable and rewarding experience in which our clients take an active role at all stages of the journey, from workshop to their home.

We take pride in sharing that journey with them, producing furniture and architectural designs that are as individual as they are.

The Proposal

Once we have agreed on final design, a price and timescale, we produce a written proposal. This includes:

1. Dimensions

2. Materials

3. Firm final price

4. Payment terms

5. Expected start, finish and delivery date

6. Delivery cost

Initial Consultation

The initial consultation establishes your exact functional requirements, any particular features and the dimensions of the piece you want to commission.

This is the stage where we discuss any particular likes or dislikes with you, and look at wood samples and different finishes. We also take this opportunity to look at the proposed location for the piece.

The Design

The design is the collation of all your preferences and requirements, resulting in a piece that is unique to you. Our aim is to produce a piece that you enjoy using, looking at, and just being near.

You will understand what is special about its construction. As the design evolves, we provide updated sketches and drawings along with any associated costs.

Production

As soon as we receive your deposit, normally up to 50% of the overall price, we book your piece into the work schedule.

The remaining balance is payable on delivery. For larger projects we can negotiate a staged payment schedule.

Workshop Visits

We welcome you to visit the workshops by arrangement whilst we are making your piece.

You will be able to see first hand the great care and craftsmanship that goes into the making of your furniture, as well as some details that may be hidden within the finished piece.
